The $3.5 million endowment from Forest Renewal BC (FRBC) that helped to start up the Watershed Research Program in 2001 significantly enhanced research capacity through the appointment of internationally recognized scholars and researchers Dr. Adam Wei and Dr. David Scott as Endowed Research Chairs in Watershed Management. Collectively, the two endowed chairs have:
- Produced over 135 scientific publications;
- Provided supervision to 30 graduate and 30 undergraduate students; and
- Attracted over $2.71 million in grants to support their research.
The program continues to advance important research, foster connections between science and industry, engage with the community, and enrich student learning. Over 820 students have been taught by these esteemed specialists, who have helped build on the strengths of existing programs by enhancing curriculum, providing hands-on learning and opportunities for graduate student research, and fostering integral partnerships with industry and the community.
