World Water Day: March 22, 2019

Collaborative Approach to Water Resiliency: Protecting Our Headwaters.

In celebration of World Water Day 2019, the Okanagan Nation Alliance hosted an experiential watershed tour and workshop for members of the community.

The day started with a tour of the Peachland Watershed at Headwaters Lake with the sharing of Indigenous traditional knowledge and perspectives.

Approximately 100 people shared the day together, engaging in dialogue around the theme “Collaborative Approach to Water Resiliency: Protecting Our Headwaters”. There were many community interests represented, including academia, industry, local watershed groups, the general public, elected officials and the provincial government.UBC Okanagan’s Research Chairs in Watershed Management, Dr. Adam Wei and Dr. David Scott, both Forest Hyrdologists, were guest speakers on the tour, speaking to the topic of cumulative effects. The workshop generated actionable items for consideration.
